History
Parties That Matter was born from the tailgate planning activities at www.buffettnews.com
We are based in the Dallas area, and our specialty is producing charity tailgate parties at local venues. Our Jimmy Buffett Frisco tailgate parties are an annual event, raising over $35k for charity since 2007.
PTM founder Bill Ansel has been coordinating large tailgate parties since 2004. That was the year that Jimmy Buffett played at Texas Stadium with George Strait and Alan Jackson. It all started with about 100 people at our tailgate that year.
In 2006, the party was named Hoot Island after the movie Hoot. This was a pre-paid party for about 300 people, and we broke even on expenses. This was the last year that Buffett played the Starplex / Smirnoff / Coca Cola Pavilion / Superpages Center at Fair Park.
In 2007, Jimmy played at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco for the first time. Our Frisco tailgate party was named the Frisco Feeding Frenzy. We had about 675 people and raised $2,300 for charity. This was also the debut year for the Leaky Tiki, which is a fully mobile hot tub on a trailer with a tiki bar.
2008 brought the 2nd Annual Frisco Feeding Frenzy, with attendance of 1,100 people. We raised $16,500 for charity with this event.
In February 2009, PTM was formed to prepare for the 3rd Annual Frisco Feeding Frenzy. We had nearly 700 people at this event and raised $17,000 for charity! Kirsten at Radio Margaritaville came out for a visit and she even brought Coral Reefer Jim Mayer for a ride on the Leaky Tiki!
We had a smaller charity tailgate party on Saturday May 2nd 2009 before the Kenny Chesney concert, also at Pizza Hut Park. We were in the Blue East Lot, right outside the East Gate of the stadium. Hawkeye from 96.3 KSCS did a live broadcast from the Leaky Tiki!
That concert ended early due to severe weather, and Kenny Chesney announced he was returning to Pizza Hut Park on Sunday, May 17th. This was a free concert with another all-day tailgate party in the same spot as before. Kenny himself even came out to party with us in the hot tub on the Leaky Tiki! Check out the Photo Section for some of those pictures.
On Saturday June 27 2009, we helped Patrick Gordon with a pool party and cook out at his house in Tuttle, OK. The party generated $3,000 to benefit Nilsa Coleman, who has been battling bone cancer since 2005. Everyone had a blast while helping support a great cause. It was a perfect example for another Party That Mattered!
