Who We've Helped
Since we started organizing charity tailgate parties in 2007, we've raised over $55,000 for charitable causes. We've supported charities including the following;
Alzheimers Association
Charity: Water
Dallas SCORES Soccer Program for disadvantaged kids
FC Dallas Foundation
Guilford County Animal Shelter
Jonathan's Place
NJ Ag Society / Farmers Against Hunger
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
National Breast Cancer Foundation
Scottish Rite Hospital for Children
Wendy L Fugit Memorial Fund to benefit Amyloidosis Research
Why Me Foundation for Childrens Cancer
Donating to other charities is great, and we've done a lot of good that way. Another blessing is that we've also been able to help a few individuals in need over the years. Here are the stories of the people we've helped:
Dana Nichols - Dana was diagnosed with cancer in early 2008. He was self employed with no insurance, and his wife Becky was staying home to take care of him. They were living in East Texas and driving 2 hours to get to Dana's medical appointments in Dallas. We gave them $10,000 in 2008, which was a critical time for them. Dana fought hard for nearly 3 years, and ultimately lost his battle in December 2010.
Nilsa Coleman - Nilsa was diagnosed with bone cancer since 2005. Her husband's job was protected under FMLA guidelines, but they did not have any income while she was recovering from a bone marrow transplant in 2009. We helped with a benefit party that raised $3,000 in June 2009. Nilsa continued to fight, and lost her battle in October 2010.
Vicki Britt - From 2007 to 2009, Vicki coordinated the food set-up for our tailgate parties. She had heart problems for quite some time, but she kept on helping others whenever she could. She was placed on a waiting list for a heart transplant in 2010. She died in May 2010, from complications after getting a LVAD pump earlier in the year. We gave Vicki and her family $9,000 to help with medical and other expenses.
Forrest Bock - Forrest was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2005. He battled liver tumors for 3 years, then got news that the cancer had spread to his lungs. We helped with a benefit party in 2010 that raised $9,000 for Forrest and his family. Forrest continues to battle and has 3 children.
Terry Mathews - We raised $,2,500 for Terry in 2011. Terry Mathews has been involved with Parties That Matter since before its inception in 2009. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2010, and suffered terribly through surgery and radiation. The uncovered portions of the medical costs wiped out her 401k and savings, but she never once complained. Michael French - We raised $2,500 for Michael in 2011. Michael is a 12 year old boy who was diagnosed with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in June of 2005. He went into remission until September of 2010 when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He has been at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth since January 2011, when he was worked up for a bone marrow transplant.
